COVID-19 continues to limit movement all over the world, including Canada. Thankfully, the availability of vaccines has provided some leeway when it comes to travelling. However, it is essential to note that health officials still recommend staying at home to prevent transmission of the virus.
If you still have plans to travel out of desire or necessity, there are some things that you need to keep in mind. It won’t be as easy as booking a plane ticket, as there are health measures to follow before travelling to Canada.
It may feel overwhelming when you prepare your travel documents but take a deep breath. We created this article to guide those who may be feeling confused about the things they need to prepare when flying to Canada.
Do you need translated documents for Canada entry registration?
Yes, you will need to have your documents translated if they are not in English or French.
This is important to remember if you are a foreigner or if your documents are simply in a foreign language. Be sure to sort these out first, as it is not something you can put off until the last minute. Find a certified translator that can officially and professionally translate your documents.
We recommend sorting this out first, upon confirmation of your travel date. As translation is a tedious process, particularly for government documents, it’s crucial to give this part of the process enough time.
Canada’s COVID-19 Precautions
The virus is still present, and it can not be wholly eliminated until we all do our part. Hence, we shouldn’t let our guard down. Canada still has travel restrictions in place, so be sure that Canada does not restrict your country of origin.
People who want to travel by air will need to comply with the quarantine and testing requirements of the Canadian government. This is important to help prevent the further spread of the virus.
Test and Quarantine Requirements Upon Entry
Before you enter Canada, you will actually be required to take a pre-entry COVID-19 test. Upon taking this test, keep your result and reserve a hotel for a 3-night stopover.
You must then register in advance for your COVID-19 test upon arrival. We recommend making a checklist of everything that you will need to sort so that you won’t need to panic upon your arrival in Canada.
Upon arrival in Canada, have your ArriveCAN receipt ready along with your test results. You should also have a copy of your hotel confirmation ready, as well as your quarantine plans. All of these critical documents should remain in one safe, easily accessible place.
We recommend having at least two copies of each of these documents in a secure folder or document pouch. These should be easy to access as you present them to the Border Services Officer.
Once you’ve presented your documents to the officer, you will then proceed to take your COVID-19 test. You will then head directly to your pre-booked hotel to wait for your results. This can last up to 3 days, which is why you were asked to book three nights for your accommodation.
On the 8th day of your quarantine, you will be required to take another COVID-19 test. You may be wondering when you can leave the hotel or quarantine facility. The answer is that it depends on the results of your arrival test.
It will be best if you can quarantine at home prior to your departure. This will give you the best chances of yielding a negative result and having a hassle-free arrival in Canada. Be sure to stay as safe and as healthy as you can to avoid any problems.
